The competition is a timed event. Each welder is given 5 minutes to complete a 1/4" fillet weld using 1/8" E7018 on mild steel. The weld
procedure is a 3" x 3" x 3/8" plate to a 1/4" thick horizontal plate using SMAW. A team of CWI's will judge the competition using the
criterial for size and appearance of the weld as stated in AWS D1.1
